Property Maintenance

An internal environment designed around the people actually using it.

01

The business

An established property maintenance company with turnover of approximately £5–6 million.

02

The situation

As organisations grow, internal information and processes often become distributed across systems, documents and individual ways of working.

The requirement here was not another public-facing website. The business needed a secure internal environment through which appropriate people could access the information and functionality relevant to them.

03

The approach

Rather than treating an intranet simply as somewhere to publish internal documents, the project was approached as an internal web application.

Secure access and user roles provide the foundation for an environment that can respond differently depending on who is using it.

04

What we built

A password-protected internal web application with user-level and role-based access.

The architecture provides a secure foundation for presenting internal information and functionality according to the requirements of different users.

05

Beyond the original problem

A digital environment through which people interact with the business.

The project changes the idea of an intranet from a place where internal information lives towards an environment that can continue evolving as new internal requirements emerge.

06

Outcome

The organisation has a modern, secure internal environment designed around its own requirements rather than forcing every process into a generic public-facing or off-the-shelf interface.

Evolve principle

Software should fit the business. The business shouldn’t have to fit the software.
